Bio
Cayla Obillo begins her first season as an assistant coach on the Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) Women’s Basketball coaching staff. Known to many as Coach O, she is starting her second year of collegiate coaching. Coach O began her coaching career at Talladega College, where she reunited with her former coach, Andre Payne. This opportunity allowed her to gain hands-on experience and deeply immerse herself in the coaching profession.
While at Talladega, she was honored to be selected for the 2024–25 Achieving Coaching Excellence® (ACE) Program, a prestigious initiative that recognizes rising coaching talent in women's basketball.
Originally from Pass Christian, Mississippi, Obillo was a standout multi-sport athlete at Pass Christian High School, competing in volleyball, basketball, and track. However, she made her most significant impact on the basketball court, leading her team to back-to-back District Championships after a decade-long drought. Her high school achievements include being a three-time MVP, receiving the Heart of a Champion Award, being named Defensive Player of the Year, earning induction into the Hall of Fame, and being nominated as a McDonald’s All-American.
Obillo went on to play collegiate basketball at Alcorn State University, where she served as the starting point guard for four years. During her tenure with the Lady Braves, the team became a national leader in steals per game, averaging 14. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with an emphasis in Athletic Direction. After her time at Alcorn, she transferred to Southern University and A&M College to complete her master’s degree while playing her final season of eligibility. That season, the team made history by defeating powerhouse Oklahoma University.
