Lady Bears dominate on Sophomore day with victory over SUSLA

It was Sophomore Day in the Bears Den this evening as the Baton Rouge Lady Bears hosted the Southern University Lady Jags in an LCCAC game. The sophomores did not disappoint in their last regular-season game, dominating all four quarters to secure a 93-49 victory.
The Lady Bears got off to a strong start with a bucket by sophomore Trinity Thomas at 8:51. The Lady Jags quickly responded with a three-pointer to take the lead and went on a mini 7-2 run to open the game. The Lady Bears made several lineup substitutions midway through the quarter to find a spark. Jacey Coleman scored four straight points to pull the Lady Bears within one. The team closed out the quarter with improved defensive efforts and increased scoring from their bench, going on an 8-0 run. At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bears led by nine points, 16-7.
In the second quarter, the Lady Bears maintained their aggressive defense, holding the Lady Jags to just 20 points. Koi Ursin and Emani Young made significant contributions to the offense. The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Jags 32-20, heading into halftime with a 21-point lead, 48-27.
The Lady Bears continued their defensive pressure in the second half, limiting the Lady Jags to just 11 points in both the third and fourth quarters. They outscored the Lady Jags 45-22 in this period, finishing with a commanding 93-49 victory to close out their home regular-season schedule.
Trinity Thomas led the Lady Bears in scoring with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Five student-athletes scored in double figures for the Lady Bears: Thomas, Shelcie LeBlanc, LaTraneice McNeill, Cambrieion Link, and Jacey Coleman. The Lady Jags were led in scoring by Younique Jackson and Chelsie Davis, who each had 11 points.
With this victory, the Lady Bears improved to 13-12 overall, with a conference record of 5-2, while the Lady Jags fell to 3-16, 0-6 in the conference. Baton Rouge leads the all-time series with 49 wins to 6 losses against Southern Shreveport.

The Lady Bears will travel to Cajun Prairie in Eunice, Louisiana, to take on the conference-leading LSUE Lady Bengals this Saturday, February 21. Tip-off is set for 2 PM at the HPRE Center.
