Lady Bears drop key conference game to LSUE

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced off against the conference-leading LSUE Lady Bengals this evening in a crucial LCCAC matchup. The Lady Bengals pulled away in the third quarter and managed to hold off a late comeback by the Lady Bears, escaping the Bears Den with a 67-62 victory.
In the first quarter, Emani Young scored the first points for the Lady Bears with a quick bucket. The Lady Bengals responded with a three-pointer, taking a one-point lead. Shelcie LeBlanc then retook the lead for the Lady Bears with an "and one" play, making it 5-4. The Lady Bengals went on a 10-4 run to take a seven-point lead at the halfway mark of the quarter, 14-7. The first quarter ended with the Lady Bengals leading 21-19.
In the second quarter, the game was tied twice and saw two lead changes within the first two minutes. At 7:55 remaining before halftime, the score was tied at 24. The Lady Bears then went on a mini 7-0 run to take a 31-24 lead with four minutes left in the quarter. However, the Lady Bengals responded with a run of their own, closing the quarter with a slim one-point advantage at 34-33.
The Lady Bears regained the lead when LaTraneice McNeill scored to start the third quarter. They held a five-point lead at 43-38 with five minutes remaining in the quarter. The Lady Bears went on a 15-point run, fueled by Diaz de la Serna Munoz, at the start of the fourth quarter. With 8:45 remaining, the Lady Bengals led 53-43. The Lady Bears fought back and narrowed the deficit to three points at 65-62 with a bucket by Emani Young with 28 seconds left. Unfortunately, poor clock management and mental errors led to a turnover, allowing the Lady Bengals to seal their 67-62 victory with two free throws.
Jacey Coleman led the Lady Bears with 24 points, accompanied by nine rebounds. Shelcie LeBlanc contributed 15 points and three rebounds, while Emani Young added eight points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. For the Lady Bengals, Diaz de la Serna Munoz also led with 24 points, supported by McDonald and Bryant, who both scored in double figures.
With this loss, the Lady Bears' record falls to 11-12, 3-2, while the Lady Bengals improve to 18-6, 5-0 for the season. LSU Eunice now leads the all-time series with a record of 28 wins and 20 losses over Baton Rouge.
