Lady Bears drop conference opener at LSUE

After a delayed start to their conference season, the BRCC Lady Bears traveled to Eunice, Louisiana, to kick off conference play against the LSUE Lady Bengals at the HPRE Center. A dominating second quarter by the Lady Bengals proved costly for the Lady Bears, as they dropped their first conference game with a final score of 90-54.
In the first quarter, the game was evenly matched as both teams tried to figure out each other's game plan. In the first five minutes, there were six lead changes. Halfway through the quarter, the Lady Bears held a slim 8-7 lead. However, the Lady Bengals finished the quarter strong with a 12-3 run, taking an eight-point lead into the second quarter, 19-11.
During the second quarter, the Lady Bears struggled to keep the Lady Bengals off the boards and could not contain their high-powered offense. The Lady Bengals outscored the Lady Bears 34 to 13, giving them a commanding twenty-seven-point lead at halftime, 51-24.
At the half, a players' meeting focused on improving play on both ends of the floor, emphasizing rebounding and aggression. The Lady Bears showed some improvement, keeping pace with the Lady Bengals during the third quarter, with both teams scoring 16 points, which maintained the Lady Bengals' lead at twenty-seven points.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears' offensive struggles returned as they struggled to keep up with the Lady Bengals. Despite the challenges, the Lady Bears fought hard until the end, but the Lady Bengals outscored them 21 to 14 in the final quarter, resulting in a 90 to 54 LCCAC victory.
With the loss, the Lady Bears fell to 8-11 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while the Lady Bengals improved to 15-6 and 2-0 on the season. LSUE leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 27 wins compared to 20 losses.
