Lady Bears pick up key Region 23 victory over Hinds

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced another Region 23 opponent this afternoon at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center, hosting the Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs for a noon tip-off. The Lady Bears secured a crucial Region 23 victory with a final score of 70-52, powered by a strong second half.
The Lady Bears started the game with an impressive 11-2 run, establishing a commanding lead. They continued to build on that advantage, reaching a 10-point lead with three minutes left in the first quarter, making the score 16-6. However, the Lady Bulldogs found their rhythm as the Lady Bears' offense stalled, finishing the quarter on a 7-2 run and narrowing the gap to 5 points, with the Lady Bears leading 18-13.
In the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs capitalized on the Lady Bears' offensive struggles, launching a 5-0 run to tie the game at 18. The teams exchanged baskets and leads throughout the quarter, resulting in three ties and three lead changes. After a tie at 27, the Lady Bears ended the quarter with a 4-2 run, taking a four-point lead into halftime at 33-29. Both teams displayed inconsistent play and turnovers during the quarter.
The Lady Bears came out aggressive defensively in the third quarter, implementing a full-court press that disrupted the Lady Bulldogs. They received consistent scoring from Jacey Coleman, Chanci Moland, and Lyric McIver, extending their lead to twelve points at 43-31 early in the quarter. The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Bulldogs 18-8 in the third quarter, increasing their lead to fourteen points by the end of the quarter, with a score of 51-37.
For the second consecutive game, the Lady Bears emptied their bench in the fourth quarter, providing everyone on the roster playing time. The aggressive defense continued to hinder the Lady Bulldogs, who did find some success in the fourth quarter but were outscored 19-15. This ensured a final score of 70-52 in favor of the Lady Bears.
Jacey Coleman led the Lady Bears with a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds. Cambrieion Link also contributed significantly with 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 7 assists. For the Lady Bulldogs, Maraih Heard was their leading scorer with 15 points, with Brown also reaching double figures.
With this victory, the Lady Bears improved to 8-10, while the Lady Bulldogs fell to 3-11 for the season. The all-time series stands with Baton Rouge leading at 10 wins to 4 losses against Hinds.
