Lady Bears lose heartbreaker to Bishop State

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced the Bishop State Community College Lady Wildcats for the second time this season in a non-conference matchup. After losing 77-72 to the Lady Wildcats in December in Mobile, the Lady Bears were eager to rebound. However, the Lady Wildcats used a strong fourth quarter to secure a 78-69 victory tonight at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
In the first quarter, both teams went back and forth as they sought to figure out each other's defensive strategies. The game was tied at six with six minutes remaining, but the Lady Wildcats ended the quarter with a 13-5 run to take a 19-11 lead into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, the Lady Bears increased their defensive intensity, which led to some transition baskets. This allowed them to execute their offensive strategy effectively, outscoring the Lady Wildcats 18-11 in the quarter and cutting the deficit to just one point by halftime, 30-29.
The third quarter was highly competitive, featuring four ties and seven lead changes. The Lady Bears managed to outscore the Lady Wildcats 24-18, taking a 53-48 lead at the end of the quarter.
The fourth quarter remained close for the first seven minutes, with the lead changing hands three times. The game was tied at 65 with three minutes remaining when the Lady Wildcats took the lead with one of two free throws. However, the Lady Bears quickly responded; Cambreion Link drove coast to coast for a layup, putting them ahead 68-66. Ultimately, the Lady Wildcats closed out the game with a 12-1 run, sealing their 78-69 victory and completing the regular season sweep.
Cambrieion Link and Jacey Coleman led the scoring for the Lady Bears with 16 points each. Four Lady Bears scored in double figures: Link, Coleman, Emani Young (12 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists), and LaTraneice McNeill (11 points, 4 rebounds). For the Lady Wildcats, Braggs was the standout with 23 points, joined by Johnson, Mauldin, and Hill, who also scored in double figures.
With this loss, the Lady Bears fell to 6-10, while the Lady Wildcats improved to 8-8. Bishop State leads the all-time series with 10 wins and 5 losses over Baton Rouge.
