Lady Bears pick up a decisive road victory at Hinds !

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears kicked off the New Year on the road against Region 23 opponent Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bears started strong and managed to withstand a second-half rally from the Lady Bulldogs, securing a 70-56 victory this afternoon in J.D. Boyd Gymnasium.
Although the Lady Bears showed some rust from the holiday break, they quickly jumped out to a 5-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs found their rhythm and tied the game at 5 with six minutes left in the first quarter. They even took their largest lead of the half, going up by three points at 10-7 with three minutes to go. However, the Lady Bears fought back, retaking the lead when freshman forward Jacey Coleman grabbed a rebound and scored on a putback while drawing a foul. The Lady Bears concluded the quarter with a 7-2 run, ending the first quarter ahead by six points, 19-13.
The Lady Bears opened the second quarter with another 7-2 run, stretching their lead to 11 with seven minutes remaining. Their constantly changing defensive strategies kept the Lady Bulldogs off balance offensively. The Lady Bears received significant contributions from their bench during this period, pushing their lead to 17 points by halftime, 34-17. They limited the Lady Bulldogs to just four points in the second quarter.
Despite both teams scoring 17 points in the third quarter, the Lady Bears maintained a 17-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, 51-34.
The Lady Bulldogs fought hard and narrowed the gap to 10 points with five minutes left, bringing the score to 59-49. However, the Lady Bears responded with key baskets from Jacey Coleman, going on a mini 9-0 run to extend their lead back to 19 points at 68-49. The Lady Bulldogs attempted a final push, but it fell short, and the Lady Bears clinched the 70-56 victory in Utica.
Jacey Coleman was the standout performer for the Lady Bears, leading all scorers with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Three Lady Bears finished in double figures: Coleman, Emani Young, and Cambrieion Link. For the Lady Bulldogs, Jakira Brown led the scoring with 21 points, supported by fellow teammate Johnson.
With this win, the Lady Bears improved their season record to 5-8, while the Lady Bulldogs fell to 2-8. Baton Rouge leads the all-time series with Hinds, boasting 9 wins against 4 losses.
