Lady Bears fall to Bishop State Lady Wildcats in Mobile

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled to Mobile, Alabama, this evening to face the Bishop State Lady Wildcats in the "Christmas on the Court" game at the Frederick G. Evans Cultural Center. It was a tale of two halves, with the Lady Bears dominating the first half and leading by 15 points at the break. However, the Lady Wildcats came back to secure a 77-72 victory over the Lady Bears.
In the first quarter, the Lady Bears employed a zone defense that kept the Lady Wildcats out of sync on the offensive end, limiting their possessions. Led by the consistent performance of freshman forward Emani Young, the Lady Bears jumped out to an early 11-4 lead with five minutes remaining in the quarter. Emani Young scored 13 of the Bears' 23 points in the first quarter, and the Lady Bears ended the period with a 23-12 lead.
In the second quarter, the Lady Bears maintained their defensive strategy, which continued to give the Lady Wildcats difficulty. With four minutes to go before halftime, the Lady Bears built their lead to a game-high 21 points at 40-19. In the final minutes of the half, the Lady Wildcats mounted a mini 8-2 run to narrow the gap to 15 points at the break, 42-27. The Lady Bears also received some valuable bench production from Koi Ursin in the second quarter.
The Lady Wildcats opened the third quarter with greater aggressiveness on both ends of the floor, starting with an 11-6 run to pull within ten points at 48-38 with five minutes remaining. Their aggressive defense forced the Lady Bears into multiple turnovers and limited their offensive possessions. The Wildcats were also more assertive on the offensive glass, leading to several second-chance opportunities. By the end of the quarter, the Lady Wildcats had pulled within four points at 54-50. Koi Ursin hit a corner three-pointer at the buzzer, giving the Lady Bears a seven-point edge heading into the final frame, 57-50.
Continuing their aggressive play, the Lady Wildcats switched from zone defense to a full-court press. The Lady Bears struggled to gain momentum, and the Lady Wildcats cut the deficit to just two points at 62-60 with six minutes left. Following a steal, the Wildcats executed a coast-to-coast layup to take their first lead of the game, 65-64, with 4:38 remaining. The game went back and forth, and Cambrieion Link tied the score at 67 with one of two free throws at the three-minute mark. The Lady Wildcats then hit a jumper inside the paint, taking a 69-67 lead that they would not relinquish. The Lady Bears were outscored 50-30 in the second half, resulting in a final score of 77-72 in favor of the Lady Wildcats.
Emani Young led the Lady Bears with a game-high 20 points. Four Baton Rouge players scored in double figures: Young, Cambrieion Link, Jacey Coleman, and Koi Ursin. The Lady Wildcats were led in scoring by Cristyle Mauldin with 18 points, with additional contributions from Johnson, Mauldin, Braggs, and Hill, who all scored in double figures.
With this loss, the Lady Bears fall to 4-8, while the Lady Wildcats improve to 6-7 for the season. Bishop State continues to lead the all-time series with 9 wins and 5 losses against Baton Rouge.

Next Up
The Lady Bears will take some time off to relax and recharge for the Christmas holidays. They will return to court on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, when they will travel to Utica, Mississippi, to take on the Hinds Community College Lady Bulldogs.
