Southwestern Christian Rams defeated Lady Bears in Texas

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled to East Texas this afternoon to face the Southwestern Christian College Rams in the G.P. Bowser Memorial Physical Education Building. Unfortunately, a slow start hindered the Lady Bears, resulting in a 67-57 loss.
In the first quarter, the Rams quickly established a 14-0 lead with five minutes remaining. They capitalized on multiple turnovers by the Lady Bears, leading to easy transition points. The Lady Bears finally got on the scoreboard with a jumper from Jacey Coleman at 2:48, closing out the quarter on a 7-2 run. However, the Rams still held a 19-9 lead after the first period.
The second quarter saw Lady Bears freshman Emani Young score the first eight points for her team, narrowing the gap to six points with 7:22 left, making it 23-17. The Lady Bears outscored Southwestern Christian 19-17 in the quarter but still trailed 36-28 at halftime.
After the break, the Lady Bears adjusted their game plan, becoming more aggressive on both ends of the floor. Cambrieion Link drove to the basket and made a layup to tie the game at 40 with 3:15 remaining in the third quarter. However, the Rams responded with a three-pointer on their next possession to regain the lead. The Rams closed out the quarter with a 6-3 run, ending the period with a six-point advantage at 49-43.
Emani Young led the Lady Bears with 20 points. The Lady Bears had three student athletes score in double figures, Cambrieion Link, Emani Young and Jacey Coleman. Destiny Lewis led the Rams with a game high 21 points. The Rams also had three student athletes scored in double figures, Taylor, Bradley and Lewis.
With the loss the Lady Bears fell to 4-7 while the Rams improved to 1-9 on the season. Baton Rouge still leads the all-time series with 3 wins and 1 loss over Southwestern Christian College.

The Lady Bears will take a break for final exams before returning to action on Saturday, December 13, when they face the East Mississippi Community College Lions in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. The tip-off is set for 2 PM.
