Four in a Row for the Lady Bears!

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced off against another Region 23 opponent, the East Central Lady Warriors, this evening in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. A huge second quarter propelled the Lady Bears to a 64-57 victory.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the Lady Bears and the Lady Warriors. After eight minutes of play, the game was tied at 10. The last two minutes were similar, with both teams taking turns leading, but by the end of the quarter, the Lady Warriors held a slim 16-15 advantage.
East Central opened a seven-point lead early in the second quarter due to successful outside shooting, bringing the score to 24-17. However, the Lady Bears locked down defensively, causing problems for the Lady Warriors, and they went on an 8-0 run to get a one-point advantage, 25-24, with five minutes remaining before halftime. Cambrieion Link hit a jumper to give the Lady Bears the lead, which they would not relinquish. The Lady Bears finished the quarter with a 12-4 run, taking a nine-point lead into the locker room at 37-28.
The Lady Bears maintained their steady offensive and defensive strategy in the third quarter. Despite being outscored 14 to 13, the Lady Bears held a 50-42 lead going into the fourth.
In the final quarter, the Lady Bears fended off a late rally by the Lady Warriors with solid defense and contributions off the bench from Lyric McIver, ultimately preserving the 64-57 Region 23 victory and earning their fourth consecutive win.
Shelcie LeBlanc led the Lady Bears with 16 points. Two players scored in double figures for the Lady Bears: LeBlanc and Jacey Coleman, who added 14 points and 6 rebounds. Mikayla Holifield led the Lady Warriors with 15 points, and three players scored in double figures for them: Holifield, Knight, and Perry.
With this victory, the Lady Bears improved to 4-4, while the Lady Warriors fell to 2-4 on the season. East Central still holds the series advantage with 5 wins to 2 losses over Baton Rouge.
