Lady Bears drop Road Opener at East Mississippi

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears traveled to Scooba, Mississippi, this evening to face off against Region 23 opponents, the East Mississippi Lady Lions. This was the home opener for the Lady Lions at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
The Lady Bears found some offensive success early in the game, building an eight-point lead at 17-9 late in the first quarter. The quarter ended with the Lady Bears leading the Lady Lions by a score of 17-11.
The Lady Lions opened the second quarter with an 11-2 run, transforming their deficit into a 22-19 lead. This run was fueled by impressive shooting from beyond the arc. The Lady Bears fought back, going on an 8-0 run to reclaim the lead at 34-32 heading into halftime.
Once again, the Lady Lions started a quarter with a strong run, this time an 11-2 surge that gave them a 43-36 lead over the Lady Bears in the third quarter. However, the Lady Bears answered back with an 8-0 run of their own, taking a 44-43 lead with 2:45 remaining in the third. The Lady Lions finished the quarter with a 52-48 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Lions outscored the Lady Bears 19-14, securing a 71-62 victory.
With this loss, the Lady Bears dropped to 0-3 on the season, while the Lady Lions improved to 2-0. Jacey Coleman led the Lady Bears in scoring with 19 points, while Micaiah Satcher was the top scorer for the Lady Lions with 15 points. The Lady Bears had three players score in double figures: Coleman, Emani Young, and Shelcie LeBlanc, while the Lady Lions had two players in double digits: Satcher and Jones. Despite the loss, Baton Rouge still holds the series record with three wins and two losses against East Mississippi.
Lady Bears Highlights:
- Jacey Coleman had a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 18 rebounds.
- Emani Young added 13 points and 3 rebounds.
- Shelcie LeBlanc contributed 12 points and 4 assists.
The Lady Bears will return to the friendly confines of the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on Friday, November 7, to take on Region 23 opponents, the Jones College Bobcats. The tip-off is set for 6 PM.
