Lady Bears struggle to overcome slow start in loss to Jones College Bobcats

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced off against the Jones College Bobcats this evening at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on the BRCC MidCity Campus. The Bobcats emerged victorious, defeating the Lady Bears by a final score of 77 to 58.
In the first quarter, the Bobcats quickly established a 7 to 2 lead with 7:42 remaining. The Lady Bears fought back, managing to tie the game at seven with two baskets and a free throw by Jacey Coleman. Both teams employed aggressive defensive strategies, keeping the opponent off balance. The first quarter was characterized by spurts of scoring. After the Lady Bears tied the game, the Bobcats closed out the final four minutes with a 12-5 run, leading 19 to 12 by the end of the quarter.
The second quarter saw continued offensive struggles for the Lady Bears, who were hindered by both the Bobcats' tenacious defense and their own inconsistency. In this low-scoring period, the Bobcats outscored the Lady Bears 13 to 11, extending their lead to nine points at halftime with a score of 32 to 23.
During the halftime break, Head Coach Paula Lee encouraged her players to increase their intensity and collaborate more effectively on both ends of the court. In the third quarter, both teams maintained their aggressive full-court defense. The Bobcats took advantage, scoring easy transition baskets and outscoring the Lady Bears 21 to 11, thereby extending their lead to 53 to 34.
Despite the deficit, the Lady Bears continued to push back in the fourth quarter. The trio of Cambrieion Link, Shelcie LeBlanc, and Emani Young ignited the offense, scoring all 24 of the Lady Bears' points in this quarter. However, the Bobcats also scored 24 points in the fourth, preventing the Lady Bears from closing the gap and leading to the final score of 77 to 58 in this Region 23 matchup.
With this loss, the Lady Bears fell to 0-4, while the Jones College Bobcats improved to 2-0 for the season. Cambrieion Link led the Lady Bears in scoring with 15 points, while Anne-Patrice Patterson paced the Bobcats with 20 points.
