Lady Bears drop home opener to Rend Lake

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears closed out the annual Lady Bears classic with an early morning match up with the Rend Lake College Warriors. It was a back-and-forth game between the Lady Bears and the Lady Warriors, but the Lady Warriors would pull away late to take the 62 to 58 victory.
Rend Lake carried over their hot offense from Friday night's win versus Southwest Mississippi, in the first quarter, of this morning game. The Lady Warriors jumped out to a quick 7 to 2 leads with 6:56 left, in the quarter. The Lady Bears would find a bit of rhythm on the offensive end to close the quarter only trailing by three, 15-12.
In the second quarter, the Lady Bears would clamp down on defense and would find their stroke on the offensive end of the floor. Returning Freshman Angel Bradford was a bright spot for the Lady Bears scoring nine of her game high 26 points, in the quarter. The Lady Bears would close out the second quarter on a 15 to 7 run to take a 33 to 29 lead into halftime.
Early in the third quarter, the Lady Bears would extend their lead to ten, 41-31 with 7:24 left in the quarter. Rend Lake would close out the quarter on a 15 to 6 run to pull within one of the Lady Bears; 47-46.
The Lady Warriors would take a one-point lead, with 9:13 left in the fourth quarter, and they would not relinquish that lead. The Lady Bears would pull within two points, 55 to 53 but that was as close as they Lady Bears would get. Baton Rouge falls in the season opener to the Rend Lake Lady Warriors by the final score of 62 to 58.
Angel Bradford led all Lady Bears with a game high 26 points. Rend Lake was led in scoring by Megan Hallemann with 20 points.
With the loss the Lady Bears drop to 0-1 on the season, while the Lady Warriors improve to 2-0.

Alanna Donaldson scored 10 points with 4 rebounds, 5 assist, and 3 steals
Stephanie Stewart added 8 points with 4 rebounds
The Lady Bears will return to action this Monday November 8, 2021, at 5:30 pm when they take on Bishop State in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center.
