Lady Bears sweep the #11 Galveston College Whitecaps

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced off against the #11 Galveston College Whitecaps for a pair of games this afternoon at My-U Field on the campus of Brusly High School. The Lady Bears delivered a solid team effort with excellent performances both at the plate and on the mound, sweeping the Whitecaps with scores of 5-3 and 4-1.
Game One
The Lady Bears secured a 5-3 victory against the Galveston Whitecaps, thanks to a strong pitching performance by Madelyn Nolan and timely hitting.
The Whitecaps struck first, scoring a run in the first inning. However, the Lady Bears quickly responded, tying the game in the bottom of the first. Miley Percle and Raievah Craddock opened with back-to-back singles. They advanced on a flyout by Lindsey Hudson. Meaux Carroll would draw a walk to load the bases. Kyla Ashford drew a walk that brought Percle home for the Lady Bears' first run.
In the third inning, the Whitecaps took the lead again with two more runs, making it 3-1. The Lady Bears answered in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Lindsey Hudson and Meaux Carroll both walked, and Kyla Ashford delivered a single to load the bases. Jardyn Wheeler then hit a sacrifice fly, scoring the tagging Hudson. Lauren Landrum followed with a double to center field, driving in both Carroll and Ashford.
The Lady Bears added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning, bringing the score to 5-3. Miley Percle led off with a walk, advanced to second on a smart base-running play when Craddock would hit an infield pop fly, moved to third on Hudson's single, and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Meaux Carroll.
In the seventh inning, the Whitecaps threatened with runners on second and third, but Lady Bears relief pitcher Emily Camacho shut down the rally with a fielder's choice for the second out and a pop fly to end the inning, securing the victory.
Madelyn Nolan earned the win, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing 3 runs on 13 hits. Emily Camacho picked up the save, pitching 0.2 innings with no runs allowed and one walk. J. Struxness started for the Whitecaps and took the loss, pitching 6 innings with 5 runs on 8 hits while walking 7 and striking out 5.
Despite the Lady Bears' victory, the Whitecaps outhit them 13-8, and Baton Rouge was credited with one error in the game.

Game Two
In the second game, the Lady Bears turned in an outstanding pitching performance by Abbey Borel alongside timely hitting to win 4-1.
The Lady Bears took an early lead, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Miley Percle led off with a walk, advanced to third on a double by Raievah Craddock, and scored on a sac fly from Meaux Carroll.
The Whitecaps tied the game in the top of the fourth with a solo homer to center field by C. Bank. However, the Lady Bears quickly retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Percle led off with a walk and advanced to second when Raievah Craddock would reach on an error. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Lindsey Hudson, and Percle scored on another sacrifice fly by Meaux Carroll.
The Lady Bears added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jardyn Wheeler hit a double and was replaced by Karley Chaney. Although Lauren Landrum grounded out, Chaney advanced to third. Lanie Eschette drew a walk, and Addysen Thornton hit a single to score Chaney. Miley Percle then walked to load the bases, and Raievah Craddock hit a sac fly to score Eschette, making it 4-1.
As in the first game, the Whitecaps attempted a rally in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Bears shut it down with a ground out and two fly outs to secure the victory.
Abbey Borel started for the Lady Bears and earned the win, pitching 7 innings while allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. D. Ulajara took the loss for the Whitecaps, pitching 6 innings, allowing 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits with 5 walks and 7 strikeouts. The Lady Bears outhit Galveston 5-4, and the Whitecaps were credited with three errors in the game.

With their pair of victories, the Lady Bears improved their record to 11-19, while the Whitecaps' record fell to 22-4 for the season. Galveston College leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 6 wins and 5 losses.
