Lady Bears comeback fall short against San Jacinto

Baton Rouge, LA  

The Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced off against the San Jacinto Ravens in a doubleheader at Traction. Unfortunately for the Lady Bears, the Ravens swept the twin bill with scores of 12-5 and 17-10. 

Game One  

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lady Bears struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the San Jacinto Ravens. The Ravens scored in all but two innings, ultimately winning 12-5. 

San Jacinto got on the board first in the opening inning due to a Bears error and a walk. M. Perez hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the Ravens' first run. The Lady Bears responded with two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a brief 2-1 lead. Miley Percle led off with a triple to centerfield, and Lindsey Hudson reached on a fielder's choice. Addysen Thornton then hit a single up the middle to score both Percle and Hudson. 

However, the Ravens capitalized on the Lady Bears' fielding miscues, scoring four runs in the second inning to reclaim a 5-2 lead. They continued their offensive momentum with two more runs in the third inning and one in the fourth, giving them a commanding lead. The Lady Bears managed to score one run in the bottom of the fifth: Raievah Craddock led off with a single to centerfield, and Miley Percle reached on an error. Lindsey Hudson then hit a single up the middle to score Craddock, but after five innings, the Bears trailed 8-3. 

In the sixth inning, San Jacinto added two more runs, and two additional runs in the seventh inning increased their lead to 12-3. The Lady Bears fought until the end, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit, leading to a final score of 12-5. Raievah Craddock started the inning with a single up the middle and scored on a groundout by Miley Percle. Lindsey Hudson reached on an error and later scored on an Addysen Thornton double to centerfield. 

Kailey Dwyer started in the circle for the Lady Bears and was credited with the loss. Dwyer pitched seven innings, allowing 12 runs (6 earned) on 10 hits while walking three batters. A. Dierck started for the Ravens and was credited with the victory, pitching seven innings, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits while walking one and striking out one. 

San Jacinto outhit Baton Rouge 10 to 9, and the Bears were charged with 5 errors compared to 2 for the Ravens in the game. 

Lady Bears Game Highlights  

Game Two

The Lady Bears fell behind early due to a strong first inning by the Ravens. Despite a valiant effort to catch up, the Lady Bears ultimately lost to the Ravens, 17-10, in the second game of today's doubleheader. 

The Ravens scored six runs in the first inning, establishing a commanding lead. They continued their offensive momentum with an additional run in the second inning and three runs in the third inning, extending their lead to 10-0 over the Lady Bears. The Lady Bears finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Miley Percle led off with a single up the middle, followed by a single by Raievah Craddock to left field. Lindsey Hudson then flew out to center field, allowing Percle to tag up and score the Lady Bears' first run of the game. 

In the fourth inning, the Lady Bears added three more runs but still trailed the Ravens 10-4. Lanie Eschette began the inning with a double to left field. Kyla Ashford hit into a fielder's choice that advanced Eschette to third. Kinley Meche then singled to right field, driving in Eschette. Miley Percle walked, and Raievah Craddock followed with a single to center field, scoring Ashford and Meche. 

San Jacinto increased their lead by two with runs in the sixth inning, bringing the score to 12-4. The Lady Bears responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth but still trailed 12-5. Lauren Landrum led off with a single up the middle, and Karley Chaney reached base on an error. Landrum advanced to third when Raievah Craddock hit into a fielder's choice. Lindsey Hudson then singled up the middle, plating Landrum from third. 

San Jacinto added five more runs in the top of the seventh inning, extending their lead to 17-5. However, the Lady Bears refused to give up and scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh, all with two outs. Kinley Meche singled to center field, and Lauren Landrum reached on an error. Karley Chaney was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Miley Percle drew a walk to score Meche. Raievah Craddock then singled to center field, driving in both Landrum and Charney. Lindsey Hudson drove in Percle with another single to center field. 

Abbey Borel started for the Lady Bears and was credited with the loss, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 5 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 1. Madelyn Nolen pitched 5.1 innings in relief. J. Hashaw was the starting pitcher for the Ravens and earned the victory, pitching 3.2 innings while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 1. V. Valdez pitched in relief for the Ravens. 

San Jacento outhit Baton Rouge 16 to 12, and the Lady Bears committed 5 errors compared to 2 for the Ravens. 

Game Two Lady Bears Highlights  

 

After suffering two losses, the Lady Bears' record falls to 2-8, while the Ravens improve to 3-3 for the season. San Jacinto leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 11 wins and just 1 loss. 

 

Next Up: The Lady Bears will host the Hinds Community College Lady Eagles for a doubleheader on Tuesday, February 10, at the Hartley Vey Sports Complex – Oak Villa. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
