The Baton Rouge Lady Bears continued their homestand this afternoon at Hartly Vey Sports Complex-Oak Villa against the Bishop State Community College Lady Wildcats. The Lady Bears and the Lady Wildcats split the doubleheader, with the Wildcats winning the first game 4-2 and the Lady Bears securing a victory in the second game 2-1.
Game One
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Lady Bears struggled offensively, failing to combine hits and string together runs. Bishop State scored first, taking the early lead with a run in the first inning. The Lady Wildcats extended their lead with two more runs in the top of the second inning, making it 3-0. The Lady Bears had difficulty getting on base, and when they did, the timely hit eluded them. The Lady Wildcats added to their lead with a home run by T. Dukes to left field in the fifth inning, pushing the score to 4-0.
The Lady Bears finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring two runs but still trailing 4-2. Raievah Craddock led off with a walk, followed by a single to left field from Miley Percle. Kyla Ashford loaded the bases with another walk, and Addysen Thornton was hit by a pitch, scoring Craddock. Lanie Eschette then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Percle from third base. In the sixth inning, the Lady Bears threatened again but left two runners stranded after Emily Camacho and Raievah Craddock reached base on back-to-back singles. They went down in order in the seventh inning, ultimately losing 4-2 to the Lady Wildcats.
Kailey Dwyer started in the circle for the Lady Bears and took the loss, pitching 7 innings and allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Maddie Wooten earned the victory for the Lady Wildcats, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 5 and striking out 4.

Game Two
The second game of today's doubleheader was a classic pitcher's duel between the Lady Bears' Abbey Borel and the Wildcats' Brianna McCleray. Runs were scarce, but the Lady Bears mustered just enough offense to take game two 2-1.
Neither team could find a timely hit in the first three innings. Both teams had runners on base but were unable to convert. The Lady Bears finally broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning with two outs. Kinley Meche hit a triple to center field, and Emily Camacho reached base after getting hit by a pitch. Raievah Craddock then singled to right field, plating both Meche and Camacho. After four innings, the Lady Bears led 2-0.
The Lady Wildcats got on the board in the sixth inning when a leadoff walk scored on a double by M. Rothe. Abbey Borel closed out the game with two strikeouts and a fly out to secure the 2-1 victory for the Lady Bears.
Abbey Borel started in the circle and earned the complete game victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Brianna McCleray started for the Lady Wildcats and took the loss, pitching 6 innings while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits, walking 2, and striking out 5.
