Lady Bears Softball Off To Best Start in School History-Sweep Hinds to Impove to 7-3!
BATON ROUGE – The Baton Rouge Community College softball team earned its third sweep of the season when they won a pair of games against Hinds Community College at Oak Villa on Thursday. The total team effort resulted in an exciting 9-8 win in game one and a run-rule shortened 12-4 victory in the nightcap.
In game one, BRCC seized victory in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to topple Hinds CC. For the second series in a row, the Bears trailed 8-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but capitalized on five hits and two Hinds errors in the inning before Stevie Credeur (Scott, La.) homered on a 2-0 count, to give BRCC the walk-off victory.
Karaline Randazzo (New Iberia, La.) earned her first collegiate victory in the circle. The freshman surrendered two runs on four hits over one inning, walking one. It was her first appearance of the season. Kristyn Lormand (Scott, La.) also threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Marley Olivier (Livingston, La.) started the game for Baton Rouge Community College. Olivier allowed four hits and four runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking none.
The Bears tallied nine hits in the contest. Morgan Alleman (Rayne, La.), Cierra Treigle (Madisonville, La.), and Credeur each managed multiple hits, with Alleman going 3-for-3 at the plate to lead BRCC.
In game two, BRCC put up seven runs in the second on its way to a 10-2 victory. Hannah Abshire (Crowley, La.), Alleman, Madison Diaville (Livingston, La.), Alara Taylor (Lacombe, La.), and Jennifer Ipson (Carencro, La.) powered the big inning with RBIs.
Hinds CC got on the board in the first inning. An error scored one run for Hinds CC before the Bears pulled away for good with seven runs in the second inning. The big inning started when Alleman doubled on the first pitch of her at-bat, scoring two runs. Diaville then doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, before Taylor doubled to drive in another run. Ipson closed out the rally with BRCC's fourth double of the inning, scoring one run.
Macy Castleman (Mandeville, La.) took the win for Baton Rouge Community College to improve to 2-0 on the season. The right hander surrendered two runs on three hits over three innings, striking out two. Lormand threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Baton Rouge Community College collected eight hits. Treigle and Taylor each racked up multiple hits, as Treigle led the way with three hits in three at bats, including a double.
With the sweep, BRCC improves its season record to 7-3 and will be in action again on Tuesday, when they travel to take on Holmes CC in a double header beginning at noon.
