Bears dominate Mohawks for nonconference victory

The Baton Rouge Bears stepped out of conference play this evening to face the John Melvin University Mohawks at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center. The Bears led wire to wire, securing a dominant 116 to 72 victory over the Mohawks.
The Bears scored first with a basket by Kentrell Freeman and never relinquished their lead. The Mohawks kept it close in the first four minutes of the game; however, the Bears locked in on defense, which led to easy buckets and allowed them to outscore the Mohawks 11-9 midway through the half, taking an eight-point advantage at 23-15. The Bears continued to receive strong offensive production off the bench from Bryce Coleman, Cardez Norman, and Nicholas Womack, growing their lead to twenty points with six minutes remaining in the half at 43-23. They headed to the locker room with an eighteen-point lead, 60-42.
In the second half, the Bears continued moving the basketball effectively on offense, involving everyone while maintaining their aggressive defense. They outscored the Mohawks 56-30 in the second half, leading to the decisive 116-72 victory. Everyone on the Bears' active roster saw playing time in tonight's game.
Bryce Coleman led the Bears in scoring with 18 points. Six players reached double figures for the Bears: Coleman, Kentrell Freeman, Noah Whitehead, Jok Job, Amir Abdul-Rauf, and Cardez Norman. The Mohawks were led by Gavin Faure, who scored a game-high 26 points, with Dunn and Casler also contributing to their scoring.
With this victory, the Bears improved to 11-14 and remain 2-0 against the Mohawks.
