Baton Rouge, LA
The Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the Louisiana Knights in a non-conference matchup at the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on the BRCC Midcity campus. The Bears were looking to end a two-game losing streak, but the Louisiana Knights had other plans, defeating the Bears 65-58.
The first half was marked by low scoring for both teams. For over fourteen minutes, neither team could establish a clear lead. With 6:25 remaining in the half, the Knights held a slim lead of 15 to 14. However, they closed out the half with a 14-4 run, heading into the break with an eleven-point advantage.
At halftime, Head Coach Byron Starks encouraged his players to be more aggressive on both ends of the court, stressing that the game was still within reach if they stepped up their effort.
The Bears started the second half sluggishly, allowing the Knights to build a twenty-point lead at 45-25 with 13 minutes remaining. However, the Bears tightened their defense, which led to a better offensive flow. They went on a 24-8 run to pull within four points, 53-49, with 4 minutes left, fueled by Sophomore Guard Dylan Dominique and Freshman Guard Noah Whitehead. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Bears would get, as the Knights responded with six unanswered points, extending their lead to ten with two minutes left. The Knights ultimately defeated the Bears 65-58.
Noah Whitehead led the Bears with a game-high 20 points, while Dylan Dominique contributed 13 points off the bench. The Knights were led in scoring by Jay'Vyn Duncan, who had 14 points. With this loss, the Bears fall to 7-12 on the season, and the series between the Bears and Knights is now tied at one victory apiece.
Bears Highlights:
- Noah Whitehead: 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists
- Dylan Dominique: 13 points and 4 rebounds (off the bench)
- Jok Job: 7 points and 4 rebounds (off the bench)
