Southwestern Christian Rams defeat the Bears

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Southwestern Christian College Rams faced off for the first time on the hardwood this afternoon at the G.P. Bowser Memorial Gymnasium. The Rams used a strong second half to defeat the Bears with a final score of 86 to 78.
The Bears started strong, taking an early 5-0 lead, but the Rams quickly responded with a 5-0 run of their own, tying the game at 5 within the first four minutes. Over the next five minutes, the game saw three ties and four lead changes. After the game was tied at 17 with 11 minutes remaining in the half, the Rams went on a mini 7-2 run, taking a five-point lead at 24-19. The Bears narrowed the gap to two points with an "and-one" play by Bryce Coleman. As the first half approached the five-minute mark, the Rams established their largest lead of the half at eight points, 35-27. However, the Bears showcased solid offensive performances from Bryce Coleman, Amir Abdul-Rauf, Cardez Norman, and Jevion Sam, eventually tying the game at 42 heading into halftime.
The Rams opened the second half with a 9-3 run, taking a 51-45 lead after the first three minutes. The Bears struggled to slow the Rams down and could not find consistent success offensively. The Rams built their lead to nine points at 59-50 with 15 minutes remaining. Taking advantage of the Bears' inconsistent offense and lack of ball control, the Rams maintained their edge. Despite a late push by the Bears, fueled by Amir Abdul-Rauf, who helped close the gap to 69-66 with 7 minutes left, the Bears could not get any closer. The Rams ultimately secured the victory at 86-78.
The Bears were led by Bryce Coleman, who tallied 19 points. Two Bears athletes scored in double figures: Coleman and Cardez Norman, each contributing 17 points. For the Rams, Donny Thomas led all scorers with a game-high 28 points. Four Rams scored in double figures: Thomas, Smith, Mackey, and Rose.
With this loss, the Bears fell to 4-9 on the season, while the Rams improved to 7-6.
