The Bears fall to the Holmes Bulldogs in Goodman

This evening, the Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the Holmes Community College Bulldogs at Frank Branch Gymnasium in a Region 23 contest. The Bulldogs pulled away in the second half, securing a 90-67 victory over the Bears.
The game began slowly for the Bears on the offensive end, while the Bulldogs quickly built an early 9-2 lead. The Bears responded with back-to-back buckets from Bryce Coleman and a free throw from Nicholas Womack to tie the game at nine with 16 minutes remaining in the half. Over the next ten minutes, the teams exchanged leads and ties, resulting in four ties and four lead changes. The game was tied at 23 with 6:31 left in the half. Just before halftime, Jevion Sam of the Bears hit a jumper with 17.2 seconds remaining, tying the game at 32 as the teams headed to the locker room.
The second half saw a shift in momentum. The Bulldogs surged out of the locker room, scoring the first 10 points to take a 42-32 lead. The Bears finally got on the board when Nicholas Womack hit a jumper with 17 minutes remaining. At the 15:40 mark, Jevion Sam's jumper pulled the Bears within five, but the Bulldogs responded with a 14-2 run, building a 16-point lead that the Bears could not overcome. The Bulldogs increased their defensive pressure with a full-court press, creating havoc for the Bears and leading to easy transition points. Ultimately, the Bears were outscored 58-35 in the second half and suffered a disappointing 23-point defeat, finishing the game at 90-67.
Bryce Coleman led the Bears with 14 points. Bryce Coleman, Nicholas Womack, Jevion Sam and Cardez Norman all scored in double figures for the Bears. Markalon Rochell led the Bulldogs with a game high 23 points. The Bulldogs also had four student athketes score in double figures, Alexander, Smith, Rochell and Patrick.
With this loss, the Bears fell to 4-8 for the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 6-2. Holmes now leads the all-time series with 18 wins to 2 losses over Baton Rouge, having swept the season series with victories of 72-70 in Baton Rouge and tonight's 90-67 win.
