Tuesday, April 28, 2026: Baseball 

Poplarville, MS  

The Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the #1 Pearl River Community College Wildcats in their final midweek game of the season at Dub Herring Park. Unfortunately for the Bears, they struggled to contain the powerful offense of the Wildcats, ultimately losing 16-1 in a seven-inning run-rule contest. 

The Wildcats struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. They then added four runs in the third inning, two runs in the fourth, and eight runs in the fifth inning, building a commanding 15-0 lead over the Bears.  

The Bears finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning with a single run, reducing the deficit to 15-1. Cade Israel started the rally with a bloop single over second base, followed by Aiden Washington drawing a walk. Ben Switzer then hit a single to left field, scoring Israel. 

The Wildcats added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning, increasing their lead to 16-1. In the top of the seventh, the Bears managed to get their leadoff runner on base, but three consecutive strikeouts ended the game for Baton Rouge. 

Grant Porche started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 2 innings while allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and walking 1 batter. Jack Conravey (2.0 innings), Scott Recile (0.1 innings), Conner Mayeux (0.2 innings), Kyle Liner (0.1 innings), and Jayse Degruy (0.2 innings) pitched in relief. D. Harrison started for the Wildcats and earned the victory, with C. Culpepper, W. Johnson, and S. Shove-Knox contributing in relief. 

Pearl River out-hit Baton Rouge 10-6, with the Bears committing three errors in the game. 

Bears Highlights:  

• Keegan Kelsey went 1 for 4  

• Brecken Bordelon went 1 for 2  

• Cade Israel went 1 for 1 with 1 run  

• Ben Switzer went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI  

• Jayden Jackson went 1 for 1  

• Jake Lipscomb went 1 for 3 

With this loss, the Bears dropped to 5-47 overall, while the Wildcats improved to 44-9. Pearl River leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 43 wins and 7 losses. 

Up Next: 

The Bears will conclude their home regular-season schedule this Thursday, April 30, when they start a four-game conference series against the Delgado Dolphins at Pete Goldsby Field. The first pitch on Thursday will be at 6 PM.
