#9 LSUE outhits Baton Rouge in pair of wins

The Baton Rouge Bears squared off against the #9 LSUE Bengals this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field for a pair of conference games. Unfortunately for the Bears, they could not contain the high-powered offense of the Bengals, falling 12-1 and 12-4 in both run-rule, five-inning games.
Game One
The Bears struggled to contain the LSUE offense, as two big innings contributed to the Bengals' 12-1 victory in just five innings. The Bengals started strong, scoring seven runs in the first inning to take an early lead, capitalizing on some inconsistent Bears pitching.
In the third inning, T. Mitchell hit a solo home run to left field, extending the Bengals' lead to 8-0. The Bears finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Cayden Vice walked and scored on a double by Cooper Martin, making it 8-1.
The Bengals answered back in the fourth with another solo home run from A. Clapinski and a three-run shot by M. Bordelon, bringing the score to 12-1. The Bears loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth with a lead-off double by Trent Laporte, a single by Jayden Jackson, and a hit by pitch to Ben Switzer, but they couldn't capitalize and left all three runners stranded.
Overall, the Bears struggled to find timely hits with runners on base and couldn't stop the Bengals' offense, resulting in a 12-1 loss.
Joshua Jensen started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 0.1 innings and allowing 7 runs (6 earned) on 3 hits while walking 4. Jack Conravey (3.1 innings) and Conner Mayeux (1.1 innings) pitched in relief. B. Revord started for the Bengals and earned the victory, pitching 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits while walking 3 and striking out 4.
The Bengals outhit the Bears 8 to 4, with the Bears committing one error.

Game Two
The Bengals continued their strong performance, outslugging the Bears again for a 12-2 victory in the second game. For the second consecutive game, the Bengals had a strong start, scoring 6 runs in the first inning. M. Obradovich hit a three-run homer while T. Mitchell contributed a two-run homer, accounting for five of the six runs.
The Bears managed to score one run in the bottom of the first but still trailed 6-1. Kenneth Berard and Jay a Stelly drew back-to-back walks, and Cayden Vice reached on an error; Ben Switzer also drew a walk to score Berard.
The Bengals increased their lead to 8-1 in the top of the second with a two-run homer by M. Lougue to left field. They continued to dominate, scoring four more runs in the top of the fourth inning, expanding their lead to 12-1.
The Bears fought back and managed to score another run in the bottom of the fourth. Cooper Martin walked and scored on a double by Keegan Kelsey, but they still trailed 12-2. The Bears went down in order in the bottom of the fifth, resulting in a second loss for the day.
James T. Lewis started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing 12 runs on 12 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1. Grant Porche pitched 1.2 innings in relief. K. Lacoste started for the Bengals and earned the victory, pitching 3 innings, allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 2 hits while walking 3 and striking out 1. M. Gallien and X. Woods pitched in relief for the Bengals.
The Bengals outhit the Bears 14 to 3 while committing one error.
Bears Highlights:
- Keegan Kelsey: 2 for 3 with 1 RBI
- Jake Lipscomb: 1 for 2
- Cooper Martin: 1 run, 1 BB
With this pair of losses, the Bears fall to 4-41, 0-15, while the Bengals improve to 35-8, 12-3 on the season. LSUE leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 82 wins to 16 losses.
