Bears drop a pair of games to Delgado

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Delgado Dolphins continued their conference series this afternoon with a pair of games at Kirsch Rooney Stadium in New Orleans. In both games, the outcome hinged on one big inning by the Dolphins, who swept the day with victories of 6-1 and 12-2.
Game One
The Dolphins employed a consistent offensive approach, scoring in all but one inning to defeat the Bears 6-1. The Bears struck first, scoring a run in the first inning when Kenneth Berard led off with a walk and later scored on a passed ball by the Dolphins. The Dolphins tied the game in the bottom of the first, making it 1-1. They then plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. Delgado extended their lead with a run in the bottom of the third and additional runs in the fifth and sixth innings, ending the game at 6-1. The Bears struggled to make adjustments at the plate throughout the game, resulting in their loss.
Scott Recile started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing 3 runs on 3 hits while walking 5. James T. Lewis pitched 3.2 innings in relief for the Bears. A. Gran earned a complete-game victory for the Dolphins, pitching 7 innings and allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 4 hits, with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.
Delgado outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 4, although the Dolphins committed two errors.

Game Two
The Dolphins used a massive fifth inning to secure a 12-2 victory in game two against the Bears.
The Dolphins got on the board first with a run in the first inning to take an early lead. The Bears tied the game in the second with a solo homer to left field by Hudson Heltz. However, the Dolphins responded in the bottom of the second with a solo lead-off homer by S. Rhoades, regaining the lead at 2-1. The Bears tied the game again at 2-2 in the top of the fourth. Ben Switzer led off the inning with a double to left field, advanced to third on a ground out by Brecken Bordelon, and scored on a passed ball after Hudson Heltz walked.
The Dolphins broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring eight runs, with four of those coming from S. Rhoades, who hit a grand slam—his second homer of the game. The Dolphins added two insurance runs in the sixth inning, ending the game at 12-2 after six innings.
Joshua Jensen started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 4 innings while allowing 4 runs on 4 hits, walking 5 and striking out 4. Jack Conravey (0.2 innings) and Grayson Davis (1.0 inning) pitched in relief for the Bears. B. Kragle started on the mound for the Dolphins and earned the victory, pitching 4 innings while allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. J. Oberle pitched in relief for the Dolphins.
Delgado outhit Baton Rouge 9 to 4, with neither team committing an error.

With this pair of losses, the Bears fall to 4-37 overall, and 0-11 in conference play, while the Dolphins improve to 24-11, and 9-2 for the season. Delgado leads the all-time series with 100 wins compared to Baton Rouge's 36 losses.
