The Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the #10 LSUE Bengals this afternoon, concluding their conference series with a single nine-inning game at Bengals Stadium. Unfortunately for the Bears, they struggled to contain the Bengals' high-powered offense and fell to the final score of 11-1 in just five innings.
The Bengals took an early lead with a three-run homer to left center by A. Clapinski. They added another run in the bottom of the second inning to make the score 4-0. The Bengals continued their offensive dominance, scoring again in the bottom of the third inning, increasing their lead to 5-0.
The Bears managed to get on the board in the top of the fourth inning, scoring one run and cutting the deficit to 5-1. Cayden Vice hit a bloop double to right field and later scored on a single by Brecken Bordelon.
However, the Bengals quickly extended their lead with a solo homer to left center by M. Bordelon, making it 6-1. The Bengals then exploded for five runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of the Bears' inconsistent pitching. A fly ball that fell between two Bears players capped off the scoring for the inning, leading to an 11-1 run-rule victory.
Jack Conravey started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 5 runs on 3 hits while walking 4 batters. Kyle Liner (1.2 innings), Brennan Champagne (0.2 innings), and Grant Porch (0.0 innings) also contributed in relief for the Bears. X. Woods was the winning pitcher for the Bengals, going 4.1 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. D. Hicks came in to pitch in relief for the Bengals.
