Bears drop opening game of series to East Central

Decatur, MS
The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Decatur, Mississippi, to start a three-game series against the #3 East Central Community College Warriors at the Clark/Gay Baseball Complex. The Bears struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the East Central Warriors, ultimately losing game one 11-1 in eight innings.
The Bears scored first, getting on the board in the top of the first inning. Trent Laporte hit a single to centerfield and then scored when Brecken Bordelon sneaked a double down the left field line.
The Warriors responded with a two-run home run from Ryan Nelson in the bottom of the second inning, taking a 2-1 lead. The Warriors added five runs in the fourth inning, extending their lead to 7-1 over the Bears. They capitalized on a hit-by-pitch and a few walks, combined with hard-hit balls, to score those five runs. East Central continued their offensive surge, adding two more runs thanks to a two-run homer from W. Williams. After five innings, the Warriors held a 9-1 lead, and they tacked on a run in both the seventh and eighth innings to secure an 11-1 victory under the run rule.
Joshua Jensen started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing 7 runs (5 earned) on 7 hits while walking 2 and striking out 5. Peyton Stubbs (1.2 innings) and Brennan Champagne (2.2 innings) pitched in relief for the Bears. J. Clark started for the Warriors and earned the victory, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 8. J. Bradberry pitched 3.2 innings in relief.
East Central out-hit Baton Rouge 10-7, and the Bears were charged with 2 errors compared to 1 for the Warriors.

With this loss, the Bears fell to 0-20, while the Warriors improved to 21-3. East Central now leads the all-time series with 15 wins to 7 losses over Baton Rouge.
