Bears swept by Commodores in Panama City

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Gulf Coast Commodores met this afternoon at Frazier Field to conclude their three-game series. The Commodores sweep the Bears by the scores of 5-1 and 8-1
Game One
The Bears struggled offensively, managing only one hit and one run, while the Commodores had more success at the plate, defeating the Bears 5-1 in the first game of the doubleheader.
Gulf Coast State got on the board first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead over the Bears. The Commodores added to their lead with two more runs in the bottom of the third, making it 4-0 after three innings. An insurance run in the bottom of the fourth brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Commodores.
The Bears finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Brecken Bordelon led off with a walk, stole second, and scored on a Peyton Chiasson single to center field.
Gulf Coast State had an outstanding pitching performance from Jordan Martinez, who held the Bears to just one hit and one run. The Commodores defeated the Bears 5-1.
Tanner Cranford started on the mound for the Bears and was credited with the loss. He pitched five innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, with two walks and four strikeouts. Scott Recile pitched one inning in relief for the Bears. Jordan Martinez earned the complete game victory for the Commodores, pitching seven innings, allowing one run on one hit, while walking three and striking out eleven.
Gulf Coast out-hit Baton Rouge 7-1, and the Bears committed one error in the game.

Game Two
In the second game of the doubleheader, Gulf Coast State got their offense going early and relied on a solid pitching performance to defeat Baton Rouge 8-1.
Similar to the first game, the Gulf Coast State Commodores struck first, scoring four runs to take an early lead over the Bears. They struck again in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run home run by C. Zagryn, making it 6-0 after two innings. In the bottom of the third, D. Avera hit a leadoff homer to center field, extending the Commodores' lead to 7-0. A solo homer by A. Saleeba in the bottom of the sixth increased the lead to 8-0.
The Bears finally scored in the top of the seventh inning. Kenneth Berard reached base on a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Cade Israel single to center field.
The Commodores kept the Bears off balance at the plate throughout the game, winning 8-1 and completing the three-game series sweep.
Evan McDaniel started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing seven runs (five earned) on six hits, with one walk and three strikeouts. Conner Mayeux pitched in relief for the Bears. Donovan Raniei started for the Commodores and earned the victory, pitching seven innings, allowing no runs on three hits, while striking out seven.
Gulf Coast outhit Baton Rouge 8-4, and the Bears committed two errors compared to one for the Commodores.

- Cade Israel: 1 for 3 with 1 RBI
With these losses, the Bears fell to 0-19, while the Commodores improved to 12-11 on the season. Gulf Coast leads the all-time series with three wins and no losses over Baton Rouge.
