Bears fall to San Jac Ravens at McNeese

The Baton Rouge Bears faced off against the San Jacinto Ravens at Joe Miller Ballpark on the campus of McNeese University, in a rematch of an earlier meeting between the two teams. The San Jacinto Ravens utilized a huge third inning to defeat the Bears 11-3 in a run-rule, seven-inning game.
The Bears got on the board first, scoring a run in the second inning. Kenneth Berard led off with a double to left field. Jacob Covington then drew a walk, followed by Trent Laporte, who also walked, loading the bases for the Bears. Berard scored on a wild pitch, but Covington was thrown out at the plate while attempting to score on a double steal. Brayden Bertucci hit a single to left field, putting Bears at first and third, but the Ravens managed to get a strikeout to end the inning, stranding the Bears on the corners.
The Ravens exploded at the plate in the third inning, scoring seven runs and taking a 7-1 lead over the Bears.
In response, the Bears scored a run in the top of the fourth inning, but still trailed the Ravens 7-2. Jacob Covington walked, and Trent Laporte hit a single to left field. However, Laporte hit into a double play, moving Covington to third. Brayden Bertucci hit a single up the middle, scoring Covington. The Ravens answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth, with two runs coming from W. Franklin, who hit a two-run homer to left field. The Ravens now led 10-2.
The Bears continued to fight back, plating another run in the fifth inning but still trailing 10-3. Conner Kleinpeter reached base on a Ravens fielding error and later scored on a Jacob Covington single to left field. The Ravens matched the Bears' run in the bottom of the fifth, increasing their lead to 11-3. Both teams' pitchers managed a scoreless sixth inning. The Bears had one more chance in the bottom of the seventh to extend the game but went down in order, resulting in an 11-3 victory for the Ravens.
Klayton Wingfield started on the mound for the Bears, pitching two innings, allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, and striking out 2 batters. Conner Mayeux (0.2 innings), Dylan Cedotal (2.0 innings), and Joshua Jensen (1.1 innings) pitched in relief, with Mayeux credited with the loss. M. Mabrey started for the Ravens, pitching 2 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 2. H. Shelby received credit for the victory.
San Jacinto outhit Baton Rouge 11 to 7, with both teams committing one error in the game.

With this loss, the Bears fell to 5-40, while the Ravens improved to 29-15. San Jacinto leads the all-time series against Baton Rouge with 19 wins and 3 losses.
