Dolphins edge out the Bears in a pitchers duel at Kirsch Rooney Stadium

The #3 seed Baton Rouge Bears conclude the first day of the Region XXIII tournament against the #1 seed Delgado Dolphins at Kirsch Rooney Stadium. Runs were at a premium, this afternoon, as both team's pitchers had outstanding days on the mound. Bears pitcher Reid Godchaux and Dolphins pitcher Luke Barbier went toe to toe keeping the other team out of sync at the plate for most of the ball game. The Dolphins would scratch across just enough runs to defeat the Bears 3-0.
The Dolphins would be the first team to light up the scoreboard, this afternoon, as they would plate one run, in the bottom of the fifth inning. After five innings, the Dolphins led the Bears 1-0. The Dolphins would scratch across two insurance runs, in the bottom of the eighth inning. Heading into the top of the ninth inning, the Dolphins led the Bears 3-0. In the top of the ninth, Tanner Hornback would lead off with an infield single for the Bears. But the Dolphins would get two strikeouts and a fly out to end the Bears hopes of a comeback. The Dolphins defeat the Bears 3-0.
Reid Godchaux started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Godchaux pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while walking 3 and striking out 2. Caden Durand pitched one inning in relief for the Bears. Luke Barbier started on the mound for the Dolphins. Barbier pitched a complete game two hit shutout for the victory.
Delgado outhit Baton Rouge 7 to 2. Neither team committed an error in the ball game.
Bears Game Highlights:
Tanner Hornback went 1 for 3 with 1 BB.
Collin Dupre went 1 for 4.
Isaac Leger had 1 BB.
With the loss the Bears fell to 15-39 on the season while the Dolphins improved to 36-14.
With the pair of losses today in the Region XXIII tournament the Bears 2024 season has come to an end. The Bears finish the season 15-39.
