It was the battle of the Bears this afternoon, in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center, as the Baton Rouge Lady Bears faced off against the SW Mississippi Lady Bears. Unfortunately, the SW Mississippi Lady Bears prevailed in this battle. The final score was SW Mississippi CC 61 and BRCC 54. The first half of the game was evenly matched between both group of bears. It was point for point, rebound for rebound and turnover for turnover. At the end of the first quarter, the BRCC Lady Bears led 10 to 7 over SW Mississippi Lady Bears. The second quarter was much like the first quarter , with no team taking more than a 3 point lead. Baton Rouge was up by three ,with a few seconds to go in the second quarter, when a SW Mississippi's Kacie Fountain hit a three pointer to tie the score at 26 going into halftime. Unlike previous games, the BRCC Lady Bears came out to play in the third quarter. Baton Rouge played good defense, forced turnovers that led to layups and grabbed the momentum. BRCC led SW Mississippi at the end of the third quarter by six points, 46 to 40. With about a minute to go in the game, SW Mississippi forced BRCC Lady Bears ,into a few turnovers and bad shots, and they took their first led of the second half at 55 to 54. BRCC committed 15 turnovers in the game compared to 13 by SW Mississippi. SW Mississippi extended their led with a couple of forced BRCC turnovers and iced the game from the free throw line. Final score again was SW Mississippi CC Lady Bears 61 and Baton Rouge Lady Bears 54. BRCC shot 37 % from the floor while SW Mississippi shot 33 % from the floor but 62% from the free throw line. SW Mississippi improved their season record to 8-1, while Baton Rouge falls to 2-10.

Kayla Watson led BRCC Lady Bears with 20 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals
Celica Sterling scored 10 points and had 4 steals
Tremeeka Spikes added 14 points
The Baton Rouge Lady Bears will be back in action next Saturday January 13 at 2 pm in the Bonne Sante Wellness Center on the BRCC Midcity Campus as they take on Houston Community College.
