The Baton Rouge Community College Lady Bears will play Meridian Community College on Wednesday, March 5th, day one of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament. Game time is set for 2:00 pm at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS.
"These young ladies have been working hard all year," said Paula Lee, Head Basketball Coach for the Lady Bears. "It is so rewarding to see that pay off."
BRCC (21-6) earned an at-large berth into the field this year after finishing second in the Miss-Lou Conference standings. Meridian qualified for the tournament as the #3 seed with a season record of 18-6.
"We are excited for the opportunity," said Ashley Williams, sophomore guard for the Lady Bears. "Coach Lee has taught us to believe that we can compete against any team we face, and we look forward to representing BRCC at the regional tournament."
The winner and runner-up of the Region 23 tournament automatically qualify for the national tournament held in Salina, KS, March 17-22. If the Lady Bears are able to win their first two games next week in Clinton, MS, they will become the first team in BRCC history to qualify for the national tournament.
The Lady Bears' regional tournament games will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Radio 910AM in Baton Rouge and online at www.brccathletics.com. Fans can also follow the action on twitter and Instagram @BRCCAthletics
