Baton Rouge hosted Coffeyville Community College (KS) on Thursday afternoon in their home opener. The doubleheader was played at Oak Villa Park with BRCC besting the visitors 6-2 in game one, followed by a 4-1 victory in the night cap.
The Lady Bears did not waste anytime getting on the scoreboard in game one. Royell Cobb started things off with a single. Morgan Berry laid a bunt down and beat the throw to first. After a walk by Bria White loaded the bases, Cobb scored on a wild pitch.
Alyssa Bush pitched a complete game for the Lady Bears. She found herself in a little trouble in the second inning, when Coffeyville loaded the bases with no outs. The Red Ravens scored two runs and they would not get any closer. Overall, Bush gave up only the two runs on three hits.
White added some insurance in the sixth inning when she hit a solo home run to make the final score 6-2.
McCall followed suit in game two pitching a complete game surrendering one run on three hits.
After Coffeyville scored in the first inning, BRCC bounced right back. In the first inning, Berry scored from second off a single from the bat of White.
Chiasson doubled in the second inning. A RBI single by Liz Davis would make the score 2-1.
BRCC would add two more runs in the fifth inning. After reaching on a single, Berry would score on a double by Bush. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Bush would score the final run of the game on a sacrifice fly. The Lady Bears finished the sweep with a 4-1 victory.
Baton Rouge improves to 3-4 on the season and will travel to Alabama this weekend to face Laureen B. Wallace Community College on Saturday afternoon before playing Enterprise State Community College on Sunday.
