The busy season began this weekend with all four programs in action. The last weekend in January serves as opening weekend for baseball and softball, while men's and women's basketball are entering conference play.
Baseball started the weekend with a doubleheader on Friday versus Bossier Parrish Community College. The Bears opened the season with a 6-4 victory over the Cavaliers. Game two ended in a 8-8 tie, it had to be called due to darkness.
The baseball team then traveled a short distance southwest to Carthage, TX where they faced Panola College for a Saturday doubleheader. BRCC won game verse the Ponies 14-6 before falling in game two by a score of 10-3.
The Bears (2-1-1) will travel to Houston, TX for a four-game weekend series at San Jacinto CC. BRCC will face Blinn College, Odessa College, Grayson County College and New Mexico Junior College.
Lady Bears softball opened the season on the road in Alabama. BRCC traveled to Faulkner State Community College for games against Lake Land College and Faulkner State. While Baton Rouge dropped the first game to Lake Land 16-3, the ladies bounced back to run rule the host Faulkner State 11-3 in the second game. Coach Jones and the Lady Bears (1-1) will travel back to Alabama next weekend to participate in a tournament at Wallace State Community College.
The basketball teams traveled to New Orleans to battle the Delgado Dolphins. The Lady Bears fell to Delgado 51-41. The loss gives BRCC a 1-1 record in conference.
The men's team fared better this afternoon by beating Delgado 86-64. The win puts BRCC over .500 on the season (11-10) and gives them a 1-0 record in the conference.
Basketball will travel on Wednesday, February 4th to Southern University-Shreveport for a men's and women's doubleheader. Coach Lee and the Lady Bears will start the action at 5:00 pm.
