November 20, 2017: Men's Basketball
Baton Rouge Bears Basketball(3-4) beat Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs (3-1), Monday night in the first day of the MGCCC Thanksgiving classic, 70 to 55. It was a relatively slow start for both teams in their opening game of the classic. The game was tied early in the first half twice until BRCC pulled away on two runs of 7-0 and 10-0 run to bring the halftime score to BRCC 35 and MGCCC 24. Baton Rouge just extended their lead from there and never looked back. Final Score was BRCC Bears 70 Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs 55. This was a huge win for Coach Wilson, and his young basketball team, against a very good region 23 opponent. The Bears were led in scoring by Makye Richard with 28 points. Makye shot 56 % from the field including 4 for 7 from the three point line. Michael Harden Jr. contributed 12 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds to the bears win. The bears outshot the Bulldogs from the field, 59% shooting compared to 42% shooting by the Bulldogs. BRCC also out rebounded MGCCC 32 to 19.
The Bears will be back in action Tuesday November 21st at 12 pm when they play Northeast Mississippi CC in the second day of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Thanksgiving Classic.
