Baton Rouge was on their way to a fourth straight victory Thursday night, but the winning streak was not meant to be. Hosting Pearl River, the Bears lost a seventeen point lead in the last seven minutes to lose in overtime, 94-87.
Baton Rouge and Pearl River traded baskets in the first half until a late flurry from Jermaine Johnson. Johnson scored eight straight points for the Bears, including two threes, to extend the lead to double-digits at the half. BRCC took a 45-35 lead into the break.
The second half began the same way the first half ended. Baton Rouge maintaining a double-digit lead. With under seven minutes remaining, the lead was extended to seventeen points, the Bears biggest lead of the night.
Pearl River began to press, while BRCC began to unravel. Baton Rouge could not handle the Wildcat pressure, turning the ball over six straight times during one stretch.
It took a last second three for BRCC to push the game into overtime tied at 84.
Pearl River scored five straight points to start the extra period and Baton Rouge could not get over the hump. After the loss, BRCC is now 5-4 on the season.
Baton Rouge closes out the week on Saturday afternoon when they host Marion Military Institute (AL) at 4:00 pm.
