Walk Off Grand Slam by Barrilleaux lifts Bears over Dolphins

Bears rally, in the bottom of the ninth, to grab the 7 to 6 victory over Delgado. Game five of the series was won via a walk-off grand slam by Garrett Barrilleaux. Baton Rouge got on the board first with one run in the first. Michael Smith would single driving in Seth Daugherty. Delgado would respond with four runs, in the second, to take a 4 to 1 lead.  BRCC would begin to scratch away at the lead with two runs in the fourth. Cameron Crawford would double and score on a Troy Banks double to right field for the first run of the inning. Banks would score on an Alex Courtier sac fly to right field.  After four innings, Delgado held a 4 to 3 lead.  Delgado would tact on two more runs, in the seventh, to take a 6 to 3 lead.  Baton Rouge started the ninth inning with a walk by Donovan Murray. Lee Whitaker would reach on an error by the second basemen. Seth Daugherty would be hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Garrett Barrilleaux would step up to the plate, with the wind blowing out to right field, and crushed a bomb over the right field wall to walk off in grand style. 

Delgado scattered 12 hits compared to 6 for Baton Rouge.  Michael Russell got the victory for the Bears pitching one and one-third innings in relief. Payton allowed zero hits and zero runs. Evan Becnel, Brett Fisackerly and Trevor Benoit all pitched in relief for the Bears.  Michael Smith started on the mound for the Bears. Smith pitched one and one-thirds innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Brock Daniels took the loss for Delgado, pitching two innings allowing four runs on one hit.

Seth Daugherty went 1 for 4 with 2 Runs

Garrett Barrilleaux went 2 for 3 with 1 Run, 4 RBIs and  2BB

Michael Smith went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 BB

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 4 with 1 Run

Troy Banks went 1 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI


Baton Rouge will be back in action tomorrow, May 6 at 1 pm for game 6 of the series. The game will again be played at Maestri Field at First NBC Park at the University of New Orleans. Delgado holds a 3 to 2 series lead. Game seven if needed will be played following the outcome of game six.
